Things have been quiet on the blogging front whilst we have been getting ready to open our new library. With literally thousands of visitors every day since we opened, writing about library life
has taken a back seat. But now we want to show you some pics of our new kit funded by
Arts Council England which we set up in the fantastic events space right at the top of
Barnsley's new Library@theLightbox.
Our volunteer Jonny has been good at letting us take photos of him about the place, as we
library staff are not keen on starring in photos! However, we are definitely not shy about
offering more opportunities for young people in Barnsley to come and get some free sessions
in creating their own music.
We have been doing lots of taster sessions since we opened for various schools and community groups and many young musicians have been getting hands on with the kit and wanting to come
back for more in depth sessions, which we are thrilled about.
This family of talented musicians below did a fantastic collaboration on their first piece of music.
Once we get more of our regular individual music production sessions underway from
September onwards, we will also be planning some group projects with Barnsley YMCA
and other youth groups, with the help of our professional musician partners Rhythm Inc.
We are so grateful to the staff and young people from these organisations for their enthusiasm
and support.
The next stage of our project then is to get more live music events happening in the library.
We want to tap into all the local talent we have seen at Barnsley Live . There are so many
talented musicians in Barnsley who can inspire other young people to make music, or to
help out at live gigs and we hope that many of them will join us in bringing some live music
events into the Library@theLightbox very soon.
